The Promise of Spring

The concert's musical selection spans works from the baroque and modern periods. With composers from Japan, England, America, France, Germany and Italy, it offers a broad survey of human creativity, sensitivities and aesthetic points of view. This wealth oscillates between secular and spiritual perspectives, between longing for life, as for example in the works of the New York composer Robert Beaser, via the neutral contemplation of the Japanese Toshio Hosokawa, who lives in Berlin, to the completely internalised religiosity of Johann Sebastian Bach.
