Baroque music from Florence

Artists:

Iris Lichtinger, flauto dolce | Pavel Serbin, cello | Ella Sevskaya, pianoforte Cristofori

Francesco Maria Veracini (1690-1768), pupil of the Florentine cathedral organist Giovanni Maria Casini, was a musician at the court of Prince Ferdinando de Medici. After his death, he worked in Venice, Düsseldorf, London and finally Dresden. There he dedicated the "12 Sonate per flauto o violino solo e basso" to Prince Frederick August, a selection of which will be heard in concert, alongside works by the Neapolitans Domenico Scarlatti and Francesco Arborea. Veracini's behaviour has been passed down as arrogant and eccentric, Charles Burney reporting in 1789 that he was dubbed a "capo pazzo"- a capricious, mad head. As a special attraction, this concert will use a replica of the pianoforte Cristofori as a continuo instrument, listed as a new invention in the 1700 inventory of the Medici Prince's musical instrument collection, an arpicimbalo di nuova inventione che fa il piano e il forte.
