Terry Riley wrote his minimal music piece ‘In C’ in 1964 to set himself apart from the elitist world of (new) classical music. ‘In C’ can be performed by any number of musicians with any number of instruments; the playing instructions give the musicians a great deal of autonomy in realising the piece. ‘In C’ sounds unique every time and cannot be repeated.

The Brechtfestival opens with this pioneering piece of the democratisation of classical music, interpreted by numerous musicians from Augsburg and the surrounding area.
